Topography of Memory explores memory not as an archive of events, but as an archive of fragments. Rather than preserving complete stories, Rita Salnikova collects what usually escapes attention: the overlooked remnants of everyday life—colors, textures, photographs, packaging, flowers, labels, pieces of paper, and found objects. Encased in laminated layers, these ordinary materials become carriers of emotional residue rather than factual documentation.
Each collage asks a different question about memory. How does it distort reality? Why do certain details survive while entire events disappear? Can absence become visible? Can forgetting itself have a texture?
Instead of reconstructing the past, the series maps the unstable landscape of remembering. Every work becomes a territory where fragments accumulate, overlap, erode, and transform. Together, the hundred collages form a topography of memory—not of what happened, but of what remains.
